LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

I have always loved fall. Fall signals the end of summer and heralds the beginning of a new season, the season of change. With that in mind, for this issue Tinta Latina has decided to feature some of our areas most impressive movers and shakers.

Our Latino of the Month is the distinguished professor Luis Leal – a man who has done so much to change the way the nation perceives Chicano literature.

We feature the areas hotest nonprofits – businesses that make it their business to inflict change. Santa Barbara is an epicenter of nonprofit work, as our community boasts one of the highest nonprofit-per-capita statistics in the country – something to be proud of.

In the fashion world, change is prevalent as well. Clothing designers have mixed their colors, expanded thier palates, and gotten creative with neutrals and metallics. We did our research, compared local trends, and spoke with the latest hot designers to highlight what it is that makes this season’s woman-in-business sexy and professional. You can see this in our Fall Business Fashion Preview.

And so time rolls along and we along with it. During times of change it is important that we take stock of what we have and how grateful we are for them. As you flip through these next pages of Tinta Latina, I hope that you are filled with the same joy that we enjoyed while making it; and, in that way, contributing to the glory this season, the season of change.

Tinta Latina would also like to commend a new, neighboring publication, Conexión, which will highlight the areas local Chicano leaders.

Good luck to them!

Sincerely,
Pilar Baize
