1st Spanish Language Broadway Tour a Hit!

Latino's Cartas de Amor adds U.S. tour dates
CARTAS
DE AMOR's national tour opened with a record-breaking
engagement at the Orpheum Theatre in Phoenix,
AZ. "We were thrilled to see thousands
turn out for this special theater event,"
explains Teatro Latino executive producer
Mark Edelman. "People really enjoyed
seeing Kate and Saul in this wonderful,
romantic play. We are excited about bringing
“Cartas de Amor” to Latino audiences
all over the U.S."
Lisazo and Del Casillo portray Andres and
Melinda, the star-crossed lovers of A.R.
Gurney's Broadway hit “Love Letters”
transformed into “Cartas de Amor.”
Directed by award-winning playwright Guillermo
Reyes and produced by the Teatro Latino
division of Theater League, “Cartas
de Amor” marks the first in a series
of Spanish language plays and musicals to
be presented by “Teatro Latino”
in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas-the
major Hispanic markets in the United States.
“Teatro Latino” is dedicated to
developing cultural events for the Spanish
speaking audiences in communities throughout
the US," continues Edelman.
"Our tour will continue through 2003
and into 2004, with upcoming engagements
set for the Arena Theater in Houston (April
25-26), Long Beach and Riverside, California
(May 16-18), the Chavez Theater in El Paso
(June 13-14) and the Majestic in San Antonio
(July 18-20). More dates and cities will
be announced next month."
Starring the popular Argentine actor Lisazo
and Mexican star del Castillo, “Cartas
de Amor” traces the relationship between
a prominent Mexican artistocrat (Lisazo)
and his wealthy yet wild friend, Melinda
(del Castillo), an artist who lives life
to the fullest. The pair meet in their youth,
try to let romance take hold and build a
relationship throughout their lives via
the letters they write to one another. Their
love letters survive marriages and break-ups,
victories and tragedies, families and loneliness
always friends, always in touch, despite
the distance and circumstances that separate
them.
Saul Lisazo (Andres) was named one of the
sexiest men in the world in the November
2000 issue of “People en español.”
He is best known for his many starring roles
on Televisa-produced Spanish language television,
including “Derecho de Nacer” (opposite
Srta. del Castillo), POR TU AMAR, PRIVILEGIO
DEL AMAR, and his first big hit, ACAPULCO,
CUERPO Y ALMA. Lisazo will begin shooting
a new telenovela for Televisa in early 2003.
Kate del Castillo (Melinda) is one of Spanish
language television's biggest stars, best
known for her starring roles in DERECHO
DE NACER, RAMONA, and LA MENTIRA, currently
being revived on Univision stations across
the U.S.
Kate's long list of credits include Ofelia
Martinez, the only Mexicana on the award-winning
PBS series AMERICAN FAMILY. She is currently
starring in a new telenovela for Televisa,
BAJO EL MISMO PIEL, slated for broadcast
in the U.S. in 2003.

EE.UU.
La gira nacional
de CARTAS DE AMOR se inauguró con
un compromiso récord en el Teatro
Orpheum en Phoenix, Arizona. "Nos emocionó

de julio). El próximo mes se anunciarán
más fechas y ciudades".

mexicana del Castillo, CARTAS DE AMOR narra
la relación entre un importante aristócrata
mexicano (Lisazo) y su rica pero alocada
amiga Melinda (del Castillo), una artista

se conoce en su juventud, tratan de dejar
que el romance se adueñe de ellos
y crean una relación que durará
