Noticias, Educacion, Arte, Horoscopos, y Mucho Mas...   Thalia: Actress, Singer, and Entrepreneur By Maria Hsin Multitalented is perhaps the easiest way to describe Thalia, the Mexican singer and actress whose 2003 self-titled album went multi-platinum in several countries, including the U.S. THALIA, the singer’s first album in English, produced three #1 Latin singles and put her on the map for many U.S. fans with the ubiquitous single “I Want You,” featuring Fat Joe. Thalia also received two Billboard Latin Music Awards that year. Many others may know Thalia from the Mexican teen pop group Timbiriche. Thalia joined Timbiriche at 15, and recorded five albums with the group. Soon after, she starred with Adela Noriega in the Mexican soap opera Quinceañera, which made her famous in households across Latin America and many parts of the U.S. Although Thalia would go on to make more soap operas, she continued to nurture her interest in pop music. The 1997 release of Amor a la Mexicana, her second album with producer Emilio Estefan, was such a success that Thalia was booked for concerts in five continents. Fans may also remember her hit single “Piel Morena,” from the album En Extasis, which marked the first time she worked with Estefan. As Thalia finished her final soap opera, Rosalinda, she also released her third album produced by Estefan, Arrasando. The album featured the soap opera’s title theme as well as her first hit single in the U.S. “Entre el Mar y una Estrella” went to #1 on the Hot Latin Tracks. Arrasando was also Thalia’s first #1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart in 2000. Her English-language debut has garnered much attention in the U.S. and heavy rotation on MTV, but that has not stopped Thalia from venturing into other endeavors. The Thalia Sodi Collection at Kmart features bath and bedding, clothing, jewelry, and a fragrance. The Thalia Eyewear Collection is available at Kenmark. In February, Thalia released a greatest hits album and DVD, as well as a bilingual magazine named after her. It seems the actress, singer, and now businesswoman knows no limits. “I love to take chances,” she once said. And it looks like they are paying off.
