Q & A: SALMA HAYEK & PIERCE BROSNAN
Two of the industry’s brightest stars share their thoughts while on location in The Bahamas during the filming of After The Sunset.
Q: Have you always been a fan of this type of popcorn, big Hollywood movie, and especially the Heist type?
Salma: Sure! I've always loved this type of big-scale movie with lots of fun and not too much seriousness. There are some that are really well done, and some, well, that are really BAD! I wanted to make one that is not too dark, but more steamy and sexy. One that doesn't try to be pretentious, but is aimed to purely entertain. And this is it, this one has all the tensions and all the twists of a typical heist movie, but it's also very light, almost goofy at times. And it's got the spice coming from the chemistry I had with Pierce and The Bahamas.
Q: Speaking of Pierce, I heard you had a crush on him?
Salma: I always had a huge crush on Pierce! And it was so unreal and funny to be with him everyday and hang out with him and kiss him on the screen. What a weird experience, kissing your dream, your crush! Pierce is such a charmer, and he's got a contagious laugh!
Q: What about The Bahamas, it's pretty wild here. How did you survive the island?
Salma: I'm a survivor! So I did survive very well, thank you. On top of that I'm a fanatic diver, and there is no better place than The Bahamas to dive. Anytime I had a few hours or a day off I would go and dive somewhere on the island. It's really a dream to shoot here, and on top of that, once you're done with work, if you're lucky, you can dwell into a beautiful sunset and just relax and be happy.
Q: The movie is called “After the Sunset,” and deals with settling down. What about you, where would you settle down and retire?
Salma: Well, right now I'm not really thinking about retirement because I'm shooting another film, with my good friend Penelope Cruz, called "Banditas.” And I'm having the best of time right now. But when the time comes, well, I will find a farm and hang out with the chickens. This is how I see myself settling down, in a very quiet place far away from the glamour and the stars.
(Now turning to Pierce Brosnan)
Q: Shall we get the burning question out off the way: Are you done with Bond?
Pierce: Yes! I'm totally done. For me it's all over with James Bond. I had a good run but it's time to move on.
Q: What was the toughest thing, surviving the heat of The Bahamas or the heat of Salma Hayek?
Pierce: Well, Salma is all over this picture that’s for sure, in a very beautiful way. She never looked better. But she is also such a sweet woman, and it was really such a charm to work with her. As far as The Bahamas, they are also a character in this film. They are a way of life, the bohemian lifestyle: very relaxed and laid back, and also
a lifestyle full of dance.
Q: How is it to always reinvent yourself, from Remington Steel to Bond to Mister Producer and Pierce Brosnan?
Pierce: I just want sometimes to get away with playing myself and not be type cast always in the same character. If you want some longevity in this business, you have to shake it up, do something else and reinvent yourself.
Q: The movie could be metaphor about how, in life, we sometimes have a master plan and try to be perfect, and yet can't stay on top of all things. It shows we should just be happy to BE, and not worry so much about excelling. What do you think about that?
Pierce: Wow, this is quite a deep question! Well, actually this is my philosophy of life: I always try to be honest and true to the character I play, but I try never to overdo it. And in my life it's the same, I really appreciate every second of it. I'm thankful and don't try to
be an overachiever.

Q: ¿Siempre has sido una fanática de este tipo de palomitas de maíz, gran película de Hollywood y especialmente del tipo Heist?
Salma: ¡Seguro! Siempre he amado este tipo de películas de gran escala con mucha diversión y no mucho en serio. Hay algunas que realmente están bien hechas, y ¡algunas que son realmente MALAS! Quería hacer una que no fuera demasiado negra, pero con más calorcito y sexy. Una que no intentara ser pretenciosa, pero que apunte solamente a la diversión. Y esto es lo que es, esta tiene todas las tensiones y todos los entrelazos de una película heist típica, pero a la vez es muy liviana, casi tonta algunas veces. Y tiene el picante que proviene de la química que yo tengo con Pierce y Las Bahamas.
Q: ¿Hablando de Pierce, se ha escuchado que tuviste un enamoramiento con él?
Salma: ¡Siempre tuve un gran enamoramiento con Pierce! Y fue tan alucinante y divertido estar con él todos los días y pasar tiempo con él y besarlo en la película. ¡Qué experiencia rara besar a tu sueño, tu enamoramiento! ¡Pierce es tan atractivo, y tiene una risa contagiosa!
Q: Sobre Las Bahamas, es bastante salvaje. ¿Cómo sobreviviste en la isla?
Salma: ¡Yo soy una sobreviviente! Por eso sobreviví bastante bien, gracias. Además soy una fanática dell buceo y no hay mejor lugar que Las Bahamas para bucear. Cada vez que tenía unas pocas horas o el día libre me iba a bucear a algún lugar de la isla. Realmente es un sueño el filmar aquí, y por encima de esto, una vez que se termina el trabajo, si tienes suerte, puedes derretirte con un hermoso atardecer y solamente relajarte y sentirte feliz.
Q: La película se llama “After the Sunset”, y trata sobre el tema de establecerse, y hablando de ti ¿dónde te gustaría establecerte para jubilarte?
Salma: Bueno, ahora no estoy realmente pensando en jubilarme porque estoy filmando otra película, con mi buena amiga Penélope Cruz, llamada “Banditas”. Y estoy disfrutando de mi mejor momento ahora. Pero cuando el momento llegue, encontraré una granja y pasaré el tiempo con las gallinas. Así es como me veo cuando me establezca, en un lugar silencioso lejos de todo el glamour y de las estrellas.
(Ahora volviendo a Pierce Brosnan)
Q: ¿Deberíamos dejar la pregunta a un lado del camino? ¿Ya terminaste con Bond?
Pierce: ¡Sí! He terminado totalmente. Para mí todo ya se acabó con James Bond. Tuve un buen tiempo pero ahora hay que seguir hacia adelante.
Q: ¿Qué fue más difícil, sobrevivir el calor de Las Bahamas o el calor de Salma Hayek?
Pierce: Bueno, Salma llama la atención en esta película con seguridad, en una manera muy hermosa. Ella nunca se había visto mejor. Pero ella también es una mujer dulce, y fue realmente un agrado trabajar con ella. Sobre Las Bahamas, también son un personaje en esta película. Son una forma de vida, un estilo de vida bohemio, muy relajada, sin estrés y también un estilo de vida lleno de baile.
Q: ¿Cómo es siempre reinventarse a uno mismo, desde Remington Steel a Bond hasta el Señor Productor y Pierce Brosnan?
Pierce: A veces solo quiero alejarme a jugar conmigo mismo y no ser el tipo de actor que siempre tiene el mismo personaje. Si uno quiere longevidad en este tipo de negocios, uno tiene que sacudirse un poco, hacer algo diferente y reinventarse a si mismo.
Q: La película podría ser una metáfora sobre cómo, en la vida, a veces tenemos un plan maestro e intenta ser perfecto, y aún así no se puede estar al día con todas las cosas. Muestra que deberíamos ser felices solamente SIENDO, y no preocuparnos tanto en sobresalir. ¿Qué piensas sobre esto?
Pierce: Uau, ¡esta es una pregunta profunda! Bueno, en realidad esta es mi filosofía de vida. Yo siempre intento ser honesto y verdadero al personaje que interpreto, pero nunca intento sobreactuarlo. Y en mi vida es lo mismo, realmente aprecio cada segundo de ella. Estoy agradecido y no intento ser un sobre exigido.
