It’s amazing how the Film Festival has taken off in Santa Barbara. Recent years have seen it leap from a relatively quiet event for local film geeks to its new incarnation as a full-blown, star-studded affair. 2005 is the Festival’s 20th anniversary, and a special year for Latinos as the spotlight shines brighter than ever on the Spanish & Latin American section.
In anticipation of the Festival, we spoke with one of the most dazzling Latina stars – the “Spanish Enchantress,” Penelope Cruz, who came into town to share her latest film. We already had an interview with Jennifer Lopez, so it seemed a natural fit to combine the two into one article: Film Talk With Two of the Biggest Latina Power Players in American Media.
Our cover girl, Salma Hayek, rounds out a trio of Latinas whose presence on and off the big screen has left an indelible mark on Hollywood.
In addition to many of our regular features, we have a new section this month: Wine & Cuisine. It’s a subject we’re passionate about here at Tinta Latina, and we’re proud to have enlisted Sandra Gonzalez, one of the foremost experts in the field of wine and food related to Latin culture, to write the column.

Yo estoy sorprendida sobre cómo el Festival del Cine ha despegado en Santa Barbara. Año recientes lo han visto saltar de ser un evento relativamente silencioso para aficionados del cine a su nueva encarnación como un evento totalmente al máximo lleno de estrellas. El 2005 es el Aniversario 20mo del Festival, y es un año especial para los latinos porque la luz brilla más fuertemente que nunca sobre la sección hispana y latinoamericana.
En anticipación al Festival, hablamos con una de las rotulantes estrellas latinas –la “Hechizera Española”, Penelope Cruz, quien vino a la ciudad para compartir su última película. Ya habíamos tenido una entrevista con Jennifer Lopez, por lo tanto nos pareció natural el encajarlas para combinar las dos en un solo artículo: Charla de Cine con las dos jugadoras más poderosas de la prensa americana.
Nuestra chica de tapa, Salma Hayek, corona el trio de la latinas cuya presencia dentro y fuera de la gran pantalla ha dejado una marca inborrable en Hollywood.
Además de todas nuestras características regulares, este mes tenemos una sección nueva: Vino & Cocina. Es un tema del cual estamos apasionados aquí en Tinta Latina, y estamos orgullosos de tener en nuestra lista a Sandra Gonzalez, uno de los expertos líderes en el campo del vino y la cocina relacionada con la cultura latina, para que escriba nuestra columna.
